🐦🔥 Heliconia Cut Flower Care Guide :(Also known as “Lobster Claw” or “False Bird of Paradise”)

1. Trim the stems: • Cut 2–3 cm off the bottom of the stem at a diagonal angle with a sharp, clean knife. • Re-cut every 3–4 days to maintain hydration.

2. Use warm, clean water: • Fill a tall vase with lukewarm water (Heliconia prefers it warmer than most flowers). • Change the water every 2–3 days to keep it clean.

3. Rinse stems before use: • Rinse the stems with warm water before placing them in the vase to activate water uptake.

4. Remove lower foliage: • Strip off any leaves or leaf bases that would sit below the waterline to prevent decay and bacteria.

5. Use a tall, heavy vase for support: • Heliconia flowers are heavy and tall — a sturdy vase helps prevent tipping.

6. Flower food (optional): • Heliconias generally do well in plain water, but a tropical flower preservative can be used. • Avoid sugar-heavy solutions that might promote stem rot.

7. Keep warm and humid: • Ideal temperature: 18–27°C. • Avoid refrigeration — cold temperatures damage tropical flowers. • Mist lightly in dry environments to maintain humidity.

8. Avoid ethylene gas: • Keep away from ripening fruit and decaying plants.

9. Vase life: • Heliconia typically lasts 10–14 days, sometimes longer with proper warmth and hydration
